Clean hands are a fundamental defense against the spread of infections, illnesses, and harmful germs. That’s why Global Handwashing Day, observed annually on 15 October, plays such an important role in health promotion worldwide. This day provides an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.
At Municipal Health Services, we continuously advocate for the understanding that handwashing with soap is an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. Our Environmental Health Practitioners (EHPs) are dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of this simple yet powerful act.
This Global Handwashing Day, our EHPs in Drakenstein joined the community in Saron along with other stakeholders at the Primary Health Clinic for an important talk about diarrhoea. The discussion highlighted the significance of handwashing, especially in children, and covered the dangers, causes, and prevention of diarrhoea.
In addition, our EHPs in Witzenberg collaborated with SAPS and the local clinic to conduct an outreach program in Vredebes, reinforcing the message that proper hand hygiene is key to protecting our health.
