As part of the Disaster Management Unit’s Community Safety Project, five schools across the district — one in each municipal area — have been identified as bullying and substance abuse hotspot areas requiring focused intervention. The project brings together key role players to engage learners on critical social issues, with an emphasis on bullying and substance abuse.
On Thursday, 22 April 2026, Lee Meisenheimer (Community Safety Officer) and Cllr Clara Meyer (Portfolio Holder: Disaster Management) visited Dalweide Primary School in the Drakenstein municipal area to hand over awareness material. The material was provided to reinforce key safety messages and to support the school in sustaining awareness among learners.
This follow‑up visit built on an earlier awareness session that took place on 2 March 2026 at the school. During that session, learners were addressed by various role players who conveyed clear and consistent messages around personal safety, respectful behaviour, and the dangers associated with substance use.
This ongoing initiative underscores the commitment of Disaster Management and its partners to creating safer school communities across the district.
